Danilo Bertagna Silva (ESR6) and co-authors published “Performance of TiO2/UV-LED-Bases Processes for Degradation of Pharmaceuticals: Effect of Matrix Composition and Process Variables” was published in Nanomaterials journal on January 17th, 2022.
The article uses a Design of Experiments approach to investigate which variables are most significant for the simultaneous degradation of 5 contaminants of emerging concern in a multitude of scenarios. Appropriate models to predict kinetic constant rates, total organic carbon abatement and toxicity reduction were obtained. Vastly different responses for each pollutant suggest that the optimal treatment choice will depend on each situation and the required quality of the effluent.
