Article from Marina Gutiérrez Pulpeiro (ESR 11) and co-authors with the title “Activated carbon coupled with advanced biological wastewater treatment: A review of the enhancement in micropollutant removal” has been published in Science of The Total Environment on 27th of May 2021.

The article reviews the removal efficiencies of a wide spectrum of micropollutants in different configurations of membrane bioreactors coupled with activated carbon, which may be added inside the bioreactor or used as a post-treatment unit after the biological treatment. Additionally, the review deals with the enhancement of macropollutants removal and the beneficial effects of the addition of activated carbon for the mitigation of the membrane fouling and the sludge properties.
